According to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention of the African Union (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the 55 member states of the organization is now 9160 lower than the number advanced 24 hours ago (4,148,866) .
The number of people recovered in the last 24 hours is 8919, for a total of 3,714,288 since the beginning of the pandemic.
Southern Africa continues to be the most affected region, with 1,894,000 infected and 59,432 dead associated with contagion with the disease. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, records 1,540,009 cases and 52,372 deaths.
North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,226,094 infected and 35,249 fatalities.
East Africa accounts for 472,679 infections and 8612 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 425,223 and that of deaths is 5566. Central Africa has 121,710 cases and 1987 deaths.
Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 11,720 deaths and 197,350 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8,786 deaths and 492,842 cases.
Among the countries most affected are also Tunisia, with 8637 deaths and 247,254 cases, Algeria, with 3069 deaths and 116,346 infected, and Ethiopia, with 2718 fatalities and 192,575 infections.
Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Mozambique records 753 deaths and 66,762 cases, followed by Angola (532 deaths and 21,836 cases of infection), Cape Verde (163 deaths and 16,661 cases), Equatorial Guinea (102 deaths and 6851 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (56 dead and 3591 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (34 dead and 2174 cases).
