Covid-19: More than half of African countries with cases. Egypt leads with 166

An analysis carried out by the consultancy EXX Africa shows that the vast majority of countries on the continent are adopting measures ranging from the ban on driving inside and outside the country to the suspension of international flights.

"More than 30 African countries have reported cases of Covid-19, with more than 400 confirmed cases on the continent, mainly in Egypt, Maghreb and South Africa", reads the analysis note sent to clients, and the one that Lusa had access.

"In response, governments are imposing unprecedented measures, such as closing borders and imposing travel restrictions," added the note, which summarizes the measures announced by African governments.

Among the countries that have adopted the most significant measures is Eritrea, which "banned all travel within and outside the country" or Algeria, which has suspended all flights and sea connections with Europe.

Angola has already decreed a temporary suspension of air connections from affected countries, as well as the Comoros and the Republic of Congo, Kenya or Mali, which suspended all European passenger flights.

In Libya, all airports and borders are closed, and Tanzania has canceled flights to India, while Tunisia has suspended flights and closed borders.

The World Health Organization in Africa updated this Wednesday the number of Covid-19 infections on the continent, accounting for 477 cases in almost 30 countries. Among the countries with the most cases is Egypt, with 166, Algeria, with 67, South Africa, with 62, and Morocco, with 38.

The coronavirus, responsible for the Covid-19 pandemic, infected more than 189,000 people, of whom more than 7800 died. Of those infected worldwide, more than 81,000 have recovered from the disease.
