A total of 511 people were operated on. The figures also show that paediatrics and urology specialties had the most operations, 145 and 26 respectively.

Agostinho Matamba, spokesman for the Ministry of Health, applauded the initiative making it clear that the number of patients operated exceeded expectations - initially a total of 500 patients were expected to undergo surgery.

He also revealed to the press that the team will return to Angola for another initiative of this kind: this time the campaign will take place in Cuando Cubango province. However, Agostinho Matamba did not put forward a date for the start of the campaign.

Youncs Alichane, a Moroccan pediatric surgeon, also considered the campaign to have been a very positive experience, revealing that during the days he was in Luanda he was able to learn and share ideas with national clinicians.

The doctor also made clear his willingness to return to Angola to participate in similar initiatives.
