According to the leader of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA), this strike is unprecedented and "a rare thing", because the unions came together.

Three Angolan trade unions presented, in September 2023, a statement of demands, demanding an increase in the national minimum wage, from the current 32,000 kwanzas, to 245,000 kwanzas, a "flexible" proposal, however, to 100,000 kwanzas and an adjustment to the Civil Service salary , in the order of 250 percent, and a 10 percent reduction in Labor Income Tax (IRT).

"This is a clear indicator that governance has been distracted and that it is time to stop, reflect, and realize the great potential that Angola has. Angola has impressive potential towards the path of development", he highlighted.

The president of UNITA defended the change of ideas and party barriers, praising the current level of maturity of Angolans.

"Forget about those party walls for a bit, reform your ideas. Changes in mentality are occurring within the general public, fortunately, the youth are mature, the population is a little more informed, they are mature, but the leaders, those of the regime, they are crystallized, they only think about themselves", he stressed.

Adalberto Costa Júnior highlighted that it was reflected in the presentation of the work, which will also be launched in the provinces of Benguela and Huíla, that, "unfortunately, despite the extremely high values, the fortunes spent in Angola" in the General State Budget, citizens do not they benefit, because most of them "are not effectively directed towards creating infrastructure, proximity, services, because they are almost always stolen".

"These books are an appeal, we are all passing through, leave a positive legacy, govern for the people, for service and not to serve yourself", he urged.

Deputy Abel Chivukuvuku also said that it is important for the country's leaders to read the book, considered one of Angola's biggest problems "that most political actors do not read, do not cultivate".

"With Greg I learned to learn", said Abel Chivukuvuku, who believes that Angolans need to learn to correct mistakes, mismatches, so as not to persist permanently in mistakes and negative things.

The second phase of the interpolated general strike began on the 22nd of this month and ends on the 30th, with the first taking place from the 20th to the 22nd of March, with the third phase already scheduled for the period between the 3rd and 14th of June this year.

Negotiations between the parties began in December 2023, but without consensus to date.

The Angolan executive decided to propose a minimum wage depending on the size of the company, namely 48,000 kwanzas for small companies, 70,000 kwanzas for medium-sized companies and 96,000 kwanzas for large companies, which was rejected by the unions.

The General Central of Independent and Free Unions of Angola (CGSILA), the National Union of Angolan Workers - Trade Union Confederation (UNTA-CS) and Força Sindical - Central Sindical (FS-CS) also demand the update of the subsidies provided for in the system of social benefits from the National Institute of National Security (INSS), as well as the shared management of INSS funds, providing "necessary transparency".
