Cholera has already surpassed 3,000 cases and killed more than 100 people

Angola reported 167 more cases of cholera in the last 24 hours, bringing the total to 3,043 since January 7, when an outbreak of the infectious disease was declared, which has killed 101 people so far.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health (Minsa), the emergence of new areas of spread of the disease forced the readjustment of the estimated target population for vaccination, which went from 930,572 to 1,079,476 inhabitants. A total of 925,573 people were vaccinated from this population, which corresponds to a vaccination coverage of 86.0 percent of the target population, in the provinces of Luanda, Icolo and Bengo and Bengo.

Of the 157 new cases of cholera, 76 occurred in Luanda province, 57 in Bengo province, 19 in Icolo and Bengo province, four in Cuanza Sul province and one in Malanje province.

In the last 24 hours, 4 deaths were recorded, bringing the total number of deaths to 101.

Currently, 270 people are hospitalized with cholera.

Of the 3043 reported cases, about half occurred in Luanda (1501), 1119 in Bengo province, 390 in Icolo and Bengo province, 9 in Cuanza Sul province, 6 in Huambo province, 5 in Zaire province, 5 in Huíla province, 5 in Malanje province, 2 in Cuanza Norte province and 1 in Cunene province, with ages ranging from 2 to 100 years.

Of the 101 deaths, 46 occurred in Luanda, 41 in Bengo province, 12 in Icolo e Bengo and 2 in Cuanza Sul province, with the most affected age group being 2 to 5 years old with 470 cases and 13 deaths, followed by the age group 10 to 14 years old with 403 cases and 8 deaths.
