According to a statement from the Ministry of Health, to which VerAngola had access, the EMS delegation's visit to Angola is to assess the conditions for implementing a pharmaceutical industry.
"A delegation from the Brazilian company EMS, a leader in the production of generic medicines, is in Angola to assess the conditions for implementing a pharmaceutical industry", the statement reads.
In this regard, the Brazilian delegation was received this Wednesday in Luanda by the Minister of Health, Sílvia Lutucuta.
"The visit follows the audience granted by the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, on the sidelines of the G20, to the Board of Directors of the company EMS, which has a large market on four continents", the ministry also points out.
On the occasion, Ricardo Max, representative of EMS in Angola, considered that the project will bring advantages to Angola both in terms of the internal supply of medicines, as well as in the generation of jobs and in strengthening the industrial sector.
"We have found an ideal partner in Angola to continue our internationalization, as we are here with open doors and in dialogue with the Executive to identify the best way to implement this project", said the official.
Quoted by Jornal de Angola, the EMS representative in Angola highlighted the company's experience, ensuring the manufacture of medicines with high quality standards, in accordance with international standards, adding that there is the possibility of innovation and the creation of solutions suited to the demands of the Angolan market.
In turn, Sílvia Lutucuta mentioned the investments that have been made by the Executive to improve hospital infrastructure, train professionals and strengthen the logistics of medicine distribution, acknowledging, on the other hand, the need to produce medicines locally.
"The installation of a pharmaceutical industry in Angola will allow us to guarantee greater autonomy for the production of essential medicines, reduce import costs and, above all, ensure a faster response to the needs of the population", she said, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
EMS's interest in setting up in Angola is nothing new, as in December of last year the Ministry of Health reported that the Brazilian company had expressed "a willingness to work with the Angolan Government to assess investment conditions and consequently establish the first operation on the African continent".
In this sense, Sílvia Lutucuta headed a delegation that carried out a working visit to Brazil from 9 to 11 December 2024.
