According to the epidemiological bulletin of the Ministry of Health, 190 new cases of cholera were reported in the provinces of Bengo (92), Luanda (87), Icolo and Bengo (9), Cuanza Norte (1) and, for the first time, in Cunene (1).
In the last 24 hours, 5 deaths were recorded and 215 people are currently hospitalized with cholera.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, on January 7, 2,259 cases have been reported, of which 1,212 were in the province of Luanda, 724 in the province of Bengo, 304 in the province of Icolo and Bengo, 4 in the province of Huambo, 4 in the province of Malanje, 4 in the province of Zaire, 4 in the province of Huíla, 2 in the province of Cuanza Norte and 1 in the province of Cunene, with ages ranging from 2 to 100 years.
There were 75 deaths, 41 of which were in the province of Luanda. The age group most affected was 2 to 5 years old, with 351 cases and 12 deaths, followed by the age group 10 to 14 years old, with 308 cases and 6 deaths.
In an attempt to control the disease, which is associated with poor sanitation, lack of hygiene and poor water quality, the government launched a vaccination campaign covering almost one million people.
