The government of the province of Luanda (GPL), in a statement to which VerAngola had access, informed that this year's edition of the Luanda Carnival will be held in the first three days of March, under the motto "Carnival of the 50 Years of Independence".
The party will take place on the Nova Marginal in Luanda, according to GPL, which also mentions that the street carnival is scheduled to take place on March 4th in the municipalities of Luanda.
"The Luanda Carnival will take place on the 1st, 2nd and 3rd of March, that is, we are 17 days away from the Luanda Provincial Carnival 2025", began by saying Tatiana Mbuta, director of the Provincial Office of Culture and Tourism, in statements during a press conference on the preparation of the Carnival, held this Tuesday.
The official also pointed out the fact that this year's edition has "a special flavor" because it is being held in the year in which the country marks 50 years of independence: "This Carnival has a special flavor because it is the Carnival of 50 years".
This year's edition will feature the participation of approximately 40 groups: 15 from the children's class, 11 from class B and 13 from class A.
"Initially, we will have around 41 carnival blocks that will parade over three days, divided into three classes: children's class, which is made up of 15 groups, class B, which is made up of 11 groups, and class A, which is made up of 13 groups," she highlighted.
Tatiana Mbuta also clarified that, with the political-administrative division, one of the groups in class A no longer belongs to the province of Luanda, so it will only be present at the Luanda Carnival as a participant.
"One of the groups belongs to the province of Icolo e Bengo, União da Kissama, which will participate in the Luanda Carnival only as a participant. It will not participate to compete or as a competitor, it will only be present at the Luanda Carnival as a participant because, before the political-administrative division was concluded, the groups had already all been selected (...)," she explained.
Entry will be free for the public, given that the event is part of the 50th anniversary of national independence, said the director, who also informed that, in all classes, there will be five classified, thus guaranteeing prizes from the first to the fifth place.
Tany Narciso, president of the Luanda Provincial Carnival Association (APROCAL), also speaking at the press conference, clarified the schedule for the three days of carnival: March 1st will be the children's class parade, while the classes B and A parade are scheduled for March 2nd and 3rd, respectively.
He added that municipal parades are scheduled to take place on Tuesday.
The results will be announced on March 5, while the prizes, diplomas and trophies will be awarded to the winners on March 8, said the president of APROCAL.
