Grupo União Recreativo do Kilamba wins, for the second consecutive year, class A of Carnival 2024

União Recreativo do Kilamba is the big winner of the 2024 edition of the Luanda Carnival, in class A, with 896 points. With this victory, the group from the Rangel district revalidates the title of winner, achieved in last year's edition.

According to the results – released this Wednesday, in an event that took place at the Angolan League of Friendship and Solidarity with the People –, the groups União Mundo da Ilha and União Kiela were also on the podium.

União Mundo da Ilha won 864 points, coming in second place, while the União Kiela group came in third, scoring 790 points, writes Angop.

The winning group's parade was marked by semba, with a theme that highlighted Angola's agricultural potential. According to Angop, the song was taken over by Dom Caetano, highlighting the fact that Mony de Oliveira debuted as the lead, replacing Poly Rocha.

In addition to this title, in class A, União Recreativo do Kilamba already has three others (2018, 2019 and 2023).

Regarding prizes, the winner of class A of this edition will be awarded 15 million kwanzas, while the second and third places will be awarded 10 million kwanzas and five million kwanzas, respectively.

In class B, União Etu Mudietu, from Sambizanga, was the big winner. The group scored 852 points. Next comes the group União 10 de Outubro (828 points) and União Twabixila (762 points).

The winning group (Etu Mudietu Union) took to the parade for more than 10 years of the association's existence. Arnaldo Félix Catadi, leader of the group and author of the song (called "Dikuinhi ni kitatu Dya mivo"), in statements to Angop, expressed satisfaction with the work carried out by the group in favor of preserving Carnival

In class B, the prizes drop to five million kwanzas for the winner, three million kwanzas for second place and two million kwanzas for third place.

It should also be noted that the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, accompanied by the First Lady of the Republic, Ana Dias Lourenço, watched the parade of carnival groups that painted the New Marginal of Luanda.
