UN envoy analyzes with Angolan diplomacy conflicts in the Great Lakes

The special envoy of the UN Secretary-General for the Great Lakes Region discussed the situation in the region with the head of Angolan diplomacy this Monday, especially the conflict in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), and Angola's mediation.

Huang Xia told the press, at the end of the meeting, that he analyzed with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António, Angola's mediation role in conflicts in Africa, including the situation of instability in Sudan, as well as the implementation of processes from Luanda and Nairobi.

"I came to Luanda to address the issues of resolving various conflicts in the Great Lakes and I came looking to Luanda, Angola, in the person of its president João Lourenço, to bring more viable answers in relation to the situation", said Huang Xia, who was also received in audience by the head of state.

According to the special envoy of the United Nations secretary-general, after listening to the head of Angolan diplomacy he had a better understanding of the dynamics in the region and the work carried out by President João Lourenço and Angola, efforts that he praised.

Given Angola's responsibilities as the country that presides over the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region (CIRGL), declared the Angolan minister, and its continental responsibilities, the Portuguese-speaking country has a duty to support the UN cabinet and special envoy.

Téte António highlighted that the special envoy of the UN SG for the Great Lakes Region has the specific mission of supporting the region's efforts in this endeavor, which ranges from peace and security issues to humanitarian and development issues.

"In today's meeting we reviewed issues of peace and security in the region, especially in the Great Lakes region. The main issue in the Great Lakes is peace in eastern DRCongo, we also analyzed regional dynamics, those that have to do with the relationship between the different countries in the Great Lakes region", said Téte António, also highlighting Angola's responsibilities for implementing the Luanda Roadmap in the case of the Central African Republic.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the meeting also served to explore in depth how Angola can collaborate in easing the climate of tension currently experienced in the region, and lower tension between Rwanda and DRCongo.
