The women in question are deputy commissioners Tembo Salemba and Clarice Tavares, who were sworn in by Eugénio Laborinho, Minister of the Interior.
According to a statement from the Ministry of the Interior, to which VerAngola had access, the minister appointed, a few days ago, and this Tuesday "conferred office to, among other officers from the SME, SP and SPCB, two women (deputy fire commissioners) to the positions of provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Bengo and Lunda Sul, respectively, an action never seen in the history of that central executive service, where the positions of provincial commanders were always occupied by men".
Thus, deputy commissioner Tembo Salemba will now occupy the position of provincial commander of Lunda Sul, while deputy commissioner Clarice Tavares will assume the role of provincial commander of the Civil Protection and Fire Service of Bengo, the note states.
"In these acts, we pay special attention to the gender issue, which is why several women were appointed to perform important roles, both at national and local level", said Laborinho, when speaking at the act of inauguration and imposition of patents, adding that "it is the first time that we have women from the Civil Protection and Fire Service holding the position of provincial commander, which will certainly encourage other women to do their best, in order to be considered in the future".
According to the statement, were also sworn in, as well as participating in the act of imposing patents "13 commission officers from the Penitentiary Service, including two new deputy general directors, with emphasis on a lady, Maria Simões Gaspar, 8 commission officers from the SME, among other movements".
