UNITA requires an inquiry to determine “true authors” of the death of eight young people in Luanda

UNITA “demands” an inquiry from the authorities to investigate the “true perpetrators” of the death of eight young people in Luanda, in circumstances yet to be determined, considering that the “heinous act” constitutes a “serious violation” of the right to life.

The National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA) states, in a statement, that the information conveyed on social networks and in the average "points out alleged elements of the SIC (Criminal Investigation Service) as responsible materials of the public crime that shocked the community" .

Faced with the magnitude of the fact, the Executive Secretariat of the UniA Political Committee "requires the competent authorities" to "an inquiry to determine the true authors of the heinous act that constitutes a serious violation of the right to life" consecrated in the Constitution.

The young people were killed on February 14 in the municipality of Cacuaco, northern Luanda, where they were living in a hostel in the company of other young people.

UNITA's political body also recalled that Angola has abolished the death penalty, "and therefore the extrajudicial executions of citizens, regardless of the reasons, must challenge the country's political authorities and society in general."

UNITA, which addressed condolence senses to bereaved families, also urged society to denounce the occurrence of situations that represent a violation of the right to life and appealed to Angolan President João Lourenço to "ensure the security and protection of citizens' lives."

SIC announced on Wednesday that it is investigating the death of eight individuals, from the municipality of Cacuaco, Luanda province, previously data as missing by family members.

In a note, SIC said that he became aware, on February 15, through relatives of the disappearance of eight young people who were living in a hostel in the company of other young people.

According to SIC, in view of the severity of the situation, it spoiled "a set of investigative actions, embodied in the opening of competent process, as well as the prompt judicial inspection to the place indicated by family members as the place where young people celebrated the day of São Valentine, the moment they were removed from there. "

Preliminary information from witnesses who were at the scene, said SIC in his note, report that the victims were taken by four unidentified individuals, who were already at the scene before the presence of the eight young people, "armed with pistols and under threats Death, then destroying the hostel's video surveillance system.

Following the facts, two days after the disappearance, the bodies of young people, once given missing, were located in Morgue of Josina Machel Hospital and recognized by their families.

"Considering that the facts reported here reveal high complexity and concern for public security, SIC in coordination with PNA [Angola National Police], proceed with due diligence, aiming at the identification and location of the perpetrators of this crime for consequent criminal liability "The note stressed.
