Constitutional Court: Constitution was designed to be “national consensus agenda”

In a note alluding to the 12th anniversary of the CRA in 2010, which took place on Saturday, the TC states that the new constitutional order, instituted as a result of its approval and promulgation, "constitutes an achievement of our young democracy".

The achievement is based "on being consecrated by the constituent legislator a universe of fundamental principles and legal-constitutional solutions for the strengthening of the democratic State and of law" in Angola.

Angola marked on Saturday, February 5, 2022, the 12th anniversary of the approval and promulgation of the 2010 CRA, revised in 2021 at the request of President João Lourenço.

According to the Constitutional Court, of the main advances of the 2010 CRA, in relation to the previous Constitutional Law of 1992, "the matter related to the strengthening of the catalog of rights, freedoms and fundamental guarantees of citizens has been highlighted".

"In addition to expanding the range of rights and freedoms, the supreme law guides the State, in its most diverse dimensions, to ensure their protection and effective protection", reads the note.

For the judicial instance, all Angolans, "citizens of this unitary and sovereign State", are invited to revisit the decisive moments that culminated in the approval of the CRA, "with the certainty that Angola will continue to tread, through the materialization of the constitutional provisions , the paths that lead to sustainable development".
