Angola defends ratification of cross-border transit facilitation agreement

The Minister of Transport, Ricardo Abreu, defended this Monday the need for the countries of the tripartite mechanism to ratify the cross-border transit facilitation agreement.

According to ANGOP, in addition to ratification, the minister said, in statements to the press after the II Extraordinary Meeting of the Council of Ministers of the Tripartite Mechanism, that the guidelines for measures to prevent and combat the pandemic of the covid-19 were discussed, in the sense of facilitate movement between the three regions.

These are the Common Market for West Africa (Comesa), the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC).

Regarding the covid-19 pandemic, Ricardo Abreu, quoted by Angop, said that the case will be deepened with the health ministers of the three regions, in order to be aligned and allow economic activity to resume.

The African continental free trade agreement was also addressed under which, according to Ricardo Abreu, some countries close to Angola may extend their services to Angolan territory, such as Namibia, Republic of Congo and Zambia.

This Monday's meeting, which was held by videoconference, had the purpose of analyzing and approving the draft tripartite legal instruments, previously discussed at the Sectorial Ministerial Committees of the Tripartite Mechanism, having also been approved by the Tripartite Sectorial Committee for Legal Affairs.
