Angolan judge to audit African Union accounts

Angolan judge Exalgina Gamboa was appointed to the African Union's (AU) Council of External Auditors, the Angolan Embassy in Ethiopia revealed in a statement.

According to the note, cited by Expansão, the also president of the Court of Auditors will be responsible for auditing the AU accounts for 2020 and 2021.

Kwesi Quartey, vice-chairman of the AU Commission, applauded earlier this month the appointment of Angola to the AU's Council of External Auditors. At the time, the official said he hoped the relationship was "fruitful and beneficial."

The AU Council of External Auditors is composed of various heads of audit institutions from AU member states, who are appointed by the Executive Council.

The decision had been taken in October 2020 by the AU Executive Council, reports Expansão.
