A source told Lusa this Monday that the party coalition's decision-making body - the second opposition force in the country - will meet this Tuesday at its headquarters in Luanda to indicate the new president of the coalition, with deputy Manuel Fernandes "the most considered for the job".
According to the source, the new president of CASA-CE "will be the youngest candidate for President of the Republic" in the general elections of 2022.
André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau", admiral and deputy to the National Assembly, made his post available last Friday following a resignation made by four of the six political parties that support the coalition.
The electoral coalition is composed of six political parties, namely the National Party of Salvation of Angola (PNSA), Party of Free Alliance of Angolan Majority (PALMA), Party of Angolan Pacific (PPA), Party of Support for Democracy and Development of Angola - Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP), Democratic Party for Progress and National Alliance of Angola (PDP-ANA) and the Democratic Bloc (BD).
Four parties, with the exception of the BD and the PADDA-AP, ratified the resignation of "Miau", who led the coalition for almost two years.
Manuel Fernandes should be the third president of CASA-CE, after André Mendes de Carvalho and Abel Chivukuvuku, who founded the coalition in April 2012 and was removed from the leadership in February 2019, for alleged "breach of trust".
Last Friday, André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau" said he left the coalition with a sense of accomplishment, but rejected the arguments presented in the letter signed by four of the parties.
In addition, he said he sees no problem with Abel Chivukuvuku, the former president of the coalition, returning to political formation via the Democratic Bloc.
André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau" said on the occasion that he was aware that Abel Chivukuvuku is in negotiations with the Democratic Bloc.
