Former President of CASA-CE open to possible return of Abel Chivukuvuku to the coalition

The resigning leader of Convergência Ampla de Salvação de Angola - Coigação Eleitoral (CASA-CE) said Friday that he sees no inconvenience in Abel Chivukuvuku, former president of the coalition, returning to political formation through the Democratic Bloc.

:

André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau", who announced this Friday his departure from the leadership of CASA-CE, at the request of four of the six parties that make up the coalition, said he is aware that Abel Chivukuvuku, the first president of the second largest force in the Angolan opposition, is in negotiations with the Democratic Bloc.

The Democratic Bloc, led by Justino Pinto de Andrade, together with the Party of Support for Democracy and Development of Angola - Patriotic Alliance (PADDA-AP), Alexandre Sebastião André, did not sign the letter asking André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau" to make his position available, due to poor performance of duties.

According to the politician, who remains in the coalition and in parliament, the deputy for the CASA-EC parliamentary group Makuta Nkondo had suggested to him, as president of the coalition, that Abel Chivukuvuku return to the political formation, which he led from 2012 to 2019, as president, in the face of the lethargy to which the coalition was geared, which, in consultation with the other parties, was not accepted.

The leaders met with their parties, they returned and each of them said that Abel Chivukuvuku could return, but not on condition of being president, that he had not been removed from CASA, had been removed from the presidency and that like any other he could return, but without conditions. "The question of his return as president of CASA was rejected," he said.

According to André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau", "after having accepted to lead CASA-CE it wouldn't make much sense to go get former president Abel Chivukuvuku".

"And, as far as I know, he is in negotiations with the Democratic Bloc, we questioned president Justino Pinto de Andrade, who confirmed us yes, that there is dialogue between them, but that there was not yet a definitive decision, only later things would be clarified", he indicated.

André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau" rejected that his relationship with Abel Chivukuvuku is "sour".

"I don't have a sour relationship with Chivukuvuku, many people ask if we talk and talk, what happens is that I don't like to be cynical, because, although he says it's ok, but for sure it was felt and now I'm going to force a conversation I didn't think it was very appropriate and I didn't mark this step", he stressed.

Abel Chivukuvuku was head of CASA-CE's list in the 2012 general elections, and in February 2019 he was removed from the coalition leadership by five of the six parties that make up the political formation, accused of opposing the coalition itself and concentrating all powers on his person.

Three months later, André Mendes de Carvalho "Miau" replaced Abel Chivukuvuku, who is currently fighting in justice to legalize the Angola Renaissance Party - Together for Angola Servir Angola (PRA-JA Servir Angola), successively flunked by the Constitutional Court for allegedly failing to meet conditions for his certification.
