UNITA said goodbye to General Chilingutila, who died last Sunday, praising “one of the best children in Angola” after a week of funeral ceremonies in memory of the former deputy defense minister and leader of the “Black Cock” party .

"He was a man who not only participated, but also made the history of Angola for the past 47 years," said Augusto Domingos Lutock Liahuka "Wiyo", who signed the praise on behalf of the UNITA leadership.

"Mr. General Chilingutila, you have made us all proud in all military, political, diplomatic and administrative battles. You were the best!" Underlined General "Wiyo", pointing out that "UNITA and Angola will never forget their deeds and sacrifices freely consented ".

The funeral ceremonies were divided between Huambo, where the military and leader died, at the age of 74, victim of an acute myocardial infarction, and Luanda, ending in the capital with a party homage to his co-worker, which took place on Thursday .

Demóstenes Amós 'Chilingutila', was born on November 30, 1947, in the town of Bémbua, Evangelical Mission of Kamundongo, Bié Province.

Chilingutila, a name given by her paternal grandmother, means in Portuguese "what children do, adults do not understand", according to a biographical note distributed by UNITA.

He entered the military life, in the Colonial Army, in July 1968, and was later pursued by the political police PIDE, having been forced to abandon Luanda.

In 1974, after April 25, he joined UNITA. He was appointed by Jonas Savimbi as Provincial Commander of Cunene, later being promoted to captain and remained there until UNITA's strategic withdrawal from the cities in 1976, having progressively ascended the military hierarchy to the rank of general in November 1986.

Within the framework of the Government of Unity and National Reconciliation, formed in 1997, within the scope of the implementation of the Lusaka Protocol, General Demóstenes Chilingutila was appointed by UNITA for the post of Deputy Minister for National Defense.

Since 1976, he has always been a member of UNITA's governing bodies and, until his death, he was a member of the National Political Commission and the Presidential Council. He was elected deputy by the national circle, in the 2008 elections and reelected in 2012, having belonged to the 2nd Specialized Labor Committee of the National Assembly, where he held the position of secretary.

Also the Ministry of Defense and Veterans of the Fatherland, led by João Ernesto dos Santos "Liberdade", expressed on Monday, dismay at the death of the nationalist, highlighting his involvement in the anti-colonial struggle, in the Bicesse agreements and in the formation of the Armed Forces Angolans (FAA) among other processes that have led to peace and national reconciliation.
