Angola reaches 500 deaths associated with covid-19

Angola reached 500 covid-19-associated deaths on Tuesday with one more death in the last 24 hours, in addition to 36 new cases of infection with the new coronavirus, health authorities announced.

According to the epidemiological bulletin of the National Directorate of Public Health, the new infections were detected in Luanda (31), Huambo (2), Benguela (2) and Namibe (1), in people aged between 3 and 72 years, being 20 men and 16 women.

The death was registered in the province of Kwanza Sul, being an 83 year-old Angolan woman.

In addition, 17 people were considered recovered.

Angola totals, since the beginning of the pandemic, 20,854 cases, of which 19,207 have recovered, 500 have resulted in deaths, and 877 are in the active phase of the disease, including three people in critical condition and 11 serious.

Laboratories have processed 928 samples by RT-PCR, out of a cumulative 388,435.

The covid-19 pandemic has caused at least 2,474,437 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 111 million cases of infection, according to an assessment by French news agency AFP.

The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late December 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
