Covid-19: Africa with 712 more dead and 11,965 infected in the last 24 hours

In the last 24 hours, Africa recorded an additional 712 deaths from covid-19 for a total of 96,241 deaths, and 11,965 new cases of infection, according to the latest official pandemic data on the continent.

According to the African Union's Center for Disease Control and Prevention (Africa CDC), the total number of infected people in the organization's 55 member states is 3,690,488 and that of recovered in the last 24 hours is 15,083, for a total of 3,222,163 since the beginning of the pandemic.

Southern Africa remains the most affected region, with 1,757,406 infected and 52,317 dead. In this region, South Africa, the country hardest hit by the covid-19 on the continent, has 1,479,253 cases and 46,869 deaths.

North Africa is the second most affected area by the pandemic, with 1,117,406 infected and 30,849 fatalities.

East Africa accounts for 373,244 infections and 7049 deaths, while in West Africa the number of infections is 349,557 and that of deaths is 4381.

Central Africa has 92,325 cases and 1645 deaths.

Egypt, which is the second African country with the most fatalities, after South Africa, has 9751 deaths and 170,780 infected, followed by Morocco, with 8424 fatalities and 476,125 cases.

Among the six most affected countries are Algeria, with 2926 deaths and 109,467 cases, Ethiopia, with 2158 fatalities and 143,566 infections, and Kenya, with 1789 deaths and 102,048 infected.

Regarding Portuguese-speaking countries, Angola recorded 478 deaths and 20,163 cases of infection, followed by Mozambique (480 deaths and 45,785 cases), Cape Verde (137 deaths and 14,478 cases), Equatorial Guinea (87 deaths and 5614 cases) , Guinea-Bissau (46 dead and 2810 cases) and São Tomé and Príncipe (18 killed and 1385 cases).
