Angolans living in Portugal will be able to issue ID as of April

From April, Angolan citizens living in Lisbon, Portugal, will be able to apply for their Identity Card (ID). The announcement was made by the Minister of Justice and Human Rights, Francisco Queiroz.

:

Portugal will be the first country to allow Angolans to issue ID outside their home country.

"The goal is to get closer and closer to the citizen there where he is. We hope to open the data collection service next March to issue the identity card at the consulate in Lisbon, and then continue non-stop to the other places that are selected by the world", said Francisco Queiroz.

The next step is to integrate this same measure in Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Namibia: "Lisbon will be the pioneer, from next April, followed by Zambia, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Africa and Namibia," said the minister, during the opening ceremony of the training of the 50 consular agents who will work on issuing this document abroad.

The minister also said, quoted by Angop, that after the measure is implemented in the four African countries mentioned above, it will be extended to other areas of Europe.

This measure is part of the plan to massify the civil registry and allocate the ID by 2022.

In August last year, the Governor had already said that the Government was considering a strategy that would allow Angolan citizens living abroad to obtain their ID, passport and other important documents more easily.
