CAN2023: South Africa, Namibia, DR Congo and Ivory Coast in the 'round of 16'

South Africa, Namibia, DR Congo and the host Ivory Coast, without playing and without a coach, completed the group of teams qualified for the round of 16 of the African Cup of Nations (CAN2023) in football.

In Group E, Mali confirmed first place, with five points, with one nil against Namibia, who closed the group in third place, with four, and will be in the knockout phase of the most important African national team competition for the first time. .

Namibia managed to qualify as one of the four best third-placed teams and will face Angola, winner of Group D, in the round of 16.

Still in Group E, also with four points, but with an advantage in direct comfort, South Africa secured second place, and qualification, also with zero, but against Tunisia, who bowed out as one of the biggest disappointments of the competition.

In Group F, Morocco scored the only goal on the last day of the third and final round, with Ziyech, in the 37th minute, securing the victory (1-0) over Zambia, who were eliminated.

With this result, the North Africans, one of the big favorites to win the title, won the group and qualified Ivory Coast for the 'eighth', on the day the host team fired its coach, Frenchman Jean-Louis Gasset.

Even with just three points and a difference of three negative goals, Ivory Coast managed to be the fourth best third-placed team in all groups and will now face Senegal, the current champion.

With another 0 draw, against Tanzania, DR Congo came second in Group F and will be opponents of Egypt, led by Portuguese coach Rui Vitória.

The round of 16 of CAN2023 starts on January 27th, with Nigeria facing Cameroon and Angola facing Namibia.
