The former player was grateful for the attitude of the authorities, who from the hands of Manuel Homem (governor of Luanda) received the sketch of the location of the place to build the aforementioned academy and, thus, contribute to training children and young people.
According to Mantorras – who did not provide details about the land in the municipality of Belas – this is an old "dream", which will now be put into action with the allocation of the land, writes Angop.
Last Monday (22 January), Luanda hosted a gala in honor of Mantorras. According to a brief note from GPL, to which VerAngola had access, the gala was marked by "moments of joy, nostalgia and strong emotions", bringing together around 300 individuals.
"During the event held in recognition of his achievements in favor of national sport, with a career with national and international ramifications, as one of the most notable Angolan footballers of the last 20 years, Pedro Mantorras expressed satisfaction with the GPL's gesture and guaranteed to continue working in favor of the massification of sport in the community", the note reads.
It should be noted that at the end of last year, on December 27, 2023, Manuel Homem held an audience with Mantorras. On that occasion, the construction of the Mantorras Academy was one of the topics discussed at the meeting.
According to GPL, in a statement released at the time, the aforementioned academy "could house children who dream of being athletes".
Pedro Manuel "Mantorras" is a native of Huambo, having been born on March 18, 1982. His professional CV includes his time at the Portuguese club Benfica.
