According to deputy Benjamim da Silva, who presented this Thursday the political declaration of the mixed parliamentary group Social Renewal Party (PRS) and National Front for the Liberation of Angola (FNLA), both in opposition, the initiative to accuse and dismiss the President it is a reflection of the "abuse of freedom of expression".

"If the impeachment process (of the Angolan President) were to materialize, it would result in a genuine disaster for our society, because it is incongruous to move everything that is happening abroad, abroad", said the FNLA parliamentarian, who was speaking at the plenary session this Thursday.

The process of indicting and dismissing the President, João Lourenço, which began in 2023, is an initiative of the parliamentary group of the National Union for the Total Independence of Angola (UNITA, the largest opposition party).

UNITA justified the initiative with a "deviation from the Government system established by the Angolan Constitution, which translates into the existence of a party-State in place of the democratic State of law, the capture of the State and economy by an oligarchy and blatant violations of Constitution".

Deputies from the Popular Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA, in power) disapproved of UNITA's initiative, in an extraordinary meeting in parliament, a session that, for the opposition party, took place outside the Constitution and the regulations of the National Assembly, having appealed to the Constitutional Court, complaining of "irregularities" in the creation of a parliamentary commission to evaluate the process.

Regarding the current socioeconomic condition of Angolans, Benjamim da Silva said that the "cry of hunger" persists throughout the country, considering that Angolan wealth "is not democratized" in society, "but concentrated in so few" who have become rich "at the expense of social layer that became destitute".

"It is imperative and non-extendable to establish a salary that dignifies the citizen, we have not established any minimum wage in this country, it is urgent", he stressed.

Regarding the country's political context, the FNLA's political history urged political actors to internalize that "alternation is not a myth".

Benjamim da Silva also addressed the MPLA, in power since 1975, saying that a "single party regime" has been in force in the country for almost half a century, noting that the current constitution of parliament "categorically denies" its slogan that "the MPLA is the people and the people are the MPLA".
