"We will receive one first, soon, then the other two, I believe by the end of this year. Therefore, it is an integrated system that includes modern infrastructures, vessels and maritime reconnaissance aircraft", said the head of state, this Tuesday, to the press, after the inauguration of the first phase of the National Maritime Coordination and Surveillance Center.
According to João Lourenço – cited in a statement from CIPRA, to which VerAngola had access – "the effort to innovate the services of the FAA, specifically the Navy, will continue", having advanced "other investments in terms of infrastructure, namely the renovation of the Soyo and Luanda Naval Bases, which are already undergoing rehabilitation, and also, the beginning of works for the construction of what will become the largest naval base in the country".
The President also said that the modernization of the FAA "is a fact": "The modernization of our Armed Forces in general, in particular the Navy, is a fact, and day after day things start to become more visible", he said.
After inaugurating the National Maritime Coordination and Surveillance Center, the head of State paid a visit to the infrastructure, having learned about "all the details of the completion of the first phase".
On the occasion, João Lourenço said he left the visit with the "feeling of a mission partially accomplished", as "it is an infrastructure that is part of others yet to be implemented", the note reads.
The President also spoke about the regional maritime coordination and surveillance centers in Lobito and Namibe, which are being implemented. "We are going to do everything we can to complete them this year. Hence the fact that, at the end of the visit, I have met with the main heads of the Defense and Security Bodies, as well as with the Minister of State for Economic Coordination, because of of the financial component", stated João Lourenço.
