Chinese ambassador says Angola is at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation

The Chinese ambassador to Angola said this Wednesday that relations with the country are at the forefront of cooperation with Africa, on the eve of the visit by the head of Chinese diplomacy, marking the 40th anniversary of diplomatic relations.

Gong Tao was speaking, in Luanda, during a show commemorating the date, recalling that, since January 1983, the two countries have mutually supported each other in choosing their development paths and safeguarding their common interests.

The diplomat underlined that "under the impetus of China-Angola cooperation", more and more countries have turned to Luanda and considered that in the last 40 years they have set an example for China-Africa mutually beneficial cooperation.

He added that China has created a new financing cooperation model and pointed out several examples of cooperation, from the construction of infrastructures, the health area, trade and investment, making China Angola's biggest trading partner, the biggest market for export of this country, while China is "an important source of investment in Angola for several years".

Therefore, he continued, "China-Angola cooperation is at the forefront of China-Africa cooperation."

On the other hand, Gong Tao warned of "hegemonic, abusive actions, humiliation and looting" that cause heavy damage and threaten times of peace and security and place society before unprecedented challenges.

"The world has reached a historic crossroads again, and the path it takes depends on the choice of the world's people," he said.

He considered that "the rhythms of development of the two countries resonate with the same frequency" and stressed that China believes that Africa is, instead of an "arena of competition between the great powers", an important stage for international cooperation, supporting the development and respecting its sovereignty.

He noted that China, like Angola, is also committed to promoting the voice of developing countries, as China and Africa have always been communities of common interests.

On the visit of the Minister of Foreign Affairs to Africa, already a diplomatic tradition, with Angola included in the tour, he considered that it is "a sign" of the attention attributed by the Chinese side to its strategic partnership with Angola.

The Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Esmeralda Mendonça, hailed the "excellent" relationship between the two countries, encouraging the creation of synergies in more areas of cooperation, as well as the increase and diversification of economic relations and mutually advantageous partnerships.
