MPLA accuses UNITA of having “clear political agenda to achieve power at any price”

João Lourenço said this Friday, in Menongue, Cuando Cubango province, that the country has an opposition led by a party “with a clear political agenda of achieving power at any price”.

"Even if, for that, you have to disrespect the Constitution of the Republic, the law and all the principles on which the democratic rule of law is based", added João Lourenço, without mentioning the name of the political force, when he launched the Political Agenda of the Movement People's Liberation of Angola (MPLA) for the year 2022.

The President of the Republic stressed that, 20 years after the end of the armed conflict, the MPLA has "the obligation to do everything so that there is no more destruction of infrastructure, heritage and human lives for political-party reasons".

"The MPLA is responsible for continuing to work to once again earn the trust of voters at the polls, so that we can continue to carry out our Nation project," he said.

To better serve the country in the next term, continued João Lourenço, the MPLA reiterates in its 2022 Political Agenda its commitment to permanently continue to build.

"During the term that is about to come to an end, the MPLA, through the Executive it directs, managed to promote many achievements in favor of the economic and social development of the country", he said.

The MPLA leader cited among the commitments for this year the continuity of the fight against corruption and impunity, as well as the creation of a good business environment, political reform, administrative reform, economic reform, the construction of important infrastructures. social, among others.

"Continue to build peace and national reconciliation, the democratic rule of law, the market economy, investing in its diversification and having private economic agents as the main actor; continue to create more jobs, greater offer of public services of health, education, housing, water, energy and sanitation, continue to build more public infrastructures that are important for the development of the country", he promised.

João Lourenço also admitted that it is necessary to work "enough" to ensure that all militants, sympathizers and friends of the party "will exercise their right to vote and bring with them other citizens of their family and neighborhood to vote for the MPLA as well. ".

"We cannot remain closed in on ourselves, we need to attract the vote of the undecided, non-party citizens and even militants from other political parties who are disenchanted with their undemocratic practices", he said.

"For that, we have to go out into the street, meet civil society, churches, non-governmental organizations, young people, women, students, academics, culture makers, sportspeople, workers, entrepreneurs, employers, former combatants, in short, all Angolans", he emphasized.

Angola will hold its fifth general election in August this year.
