According to the secretary of State for Public Health, Franco Mufinda, quoted by Rádio Nacional de Angola, parents and guardians "must continue to mobilize" students to join the campaign.

The vaccination campaign for minors in the country started on December 16, 2021 and now registers a great adhesion after the authorities announced the obligatory nature of the card or certificate when returning to classes in general education.

Moderna and Pfizer are the vaccines authorized by the national directorate of Public Health and which are being administered to children and adolescents in this campaign.

Classes are suspended until January 16, 2022, within the scope of presidential decree 316/21 of December 31 on the situation of public calamity, aiming to contain the spread of covid-19 in the country.

Franco Mufinda, who on Tuesday visited some vaccination posts in the municipality of Cazenga, in Luanda, appealed to parents and guardians to mobilize their children, noting that they could face barriers when restarting school if they are not immunized.

"At the time, in addition to the PVAR (High Performance Vaccination Posts) we also added schools as places for vaccination of minors, as is happening in Cazenga, and in relation to children who do not do so will have barriers in access, especially at the beginning of the academic year", said the government official.

The school year was scheduled to restart on Monday, January 3, 2022, but due to the high number of covid-19 cases, especially of the Ómicron variant, registered daily, the authorities suspended its restart.

Classroom classes, in all public and private teaching establishments in the country, are suspended until January 16, 2022, and their restart is subject to an assessment of the epidemiological situation of covid-19.

Angola, which for almost two years has been in a situation of public calamity, totals 84,666 positive covid-19 cases, 65,285 recovered, 1778 deaths and 17,603 active.
