Laborinho asks for an inquiry into the death of police officers and guarantees support for the families

The Interior Minister called for a "deep investigation" into the causes of the double murder followed by a suicide that involved three police officers and announced the creation of a commission to provide support to the bereaved families.

According to a publication shared on the Ministry of Interior's Facebook page, Eugénio Laborinho summoned the highest police chiefs in Angola to take stock of the passage of the year and analyze the incident to avoid a repetition of these situations.

On January 1st, around 06:00 am, a policeman killed two colleagues and then committed suicide due to the alleged disappearance of a pistol.

At the meeting, Eugénio Laborinho called the attention of those responsible for the police units to the precautions to be taken in the selection and recruitment process, which must be "accurate and rigorous", and candidates must undergo psychological tests, a procedure that must be "permanent, especially, in the units where they are exercising their functions".

The minister also gave guidance to the MININT General Inspectorate and the Criminal Investigation Service to carry out "a thorough investigation and investigation into the causes of this occurrence, in order to assess whether there are other culprits, even if it is due to negligence or omission ".

He also announced the creation of a commission to provide the necessary support to bereaved families, including funeral funerals and the provision of post-mortem pension.

Eugénio Laborinho also addressed the need to implement "policing that suits the pre- and post-electoral period, in respect of what is provided for in the law, in particular respect for the fundamental rights and dignity of the human person", instructing the hierarchies to begin the process of training the effective in order to guarantee "a safe environment in all phases of the electoral process, of its candidates, of the party campaigns, as well as of the observers".

Another appeal was aimed at strengthening outreach actions to help "resolve some worrying phenomena, such as the vandalization of public assets, the identification of citizens who have firearms, the arrest of potential criminals who commit violent crimes, as well as ensure and restore the population's sense of security".

Eugénio Laborinho added that, in the next few days, he would continue with the project to hand over operational resources "to deal with the criminal situation and guarantee public order and tranquility".
