Angolans stranded in South Africa to return on Saturday

The more than 1,000 Angolans who are being held in South Africa due to the closing of borders should return to Luanda on Saturday, announced Pedro Sebastião, head of the Security House of the President of the Republic.

"Next Saturday, we will start the operation related to passengers who are in South Africa", said the general during a press conference in Luanda, where the usual epidemiological balance concerning covid-19 was presented.

In South Africa, 1359 passengers from TAAG, the national air carrier (910 in Johannesburg and 449 in Cape Town), are blocked in South Africa, and there are also 866 passengers in Luanda in transit to the South African country.

Angola suspended air, land and sea connections with South Africa, Australia, Nigeria and the United Kingdom, at 00:00 on 26 December 2020, due to the emergence of a new variant of SARS-CoV-2.

Pedro Sebastião also presented the main changes to the measures related to the situation of public calamity contemplated in the new presidential decree that runs until 9 February.

The news essentially concerns the resumption of teaching activity in the transition classes of primary education, on 10 February, the presence of the public, from 18 January, in competitions in federated sports, up to a limit of 10 per percent of the room's capacity, as well as an increase in the workforce, ranging from a maximum of 75 to 100 percent, in public administration, services and commerce.
