Handball: Angola bids farewell to the handball world without a victory

The men's senior national team lost this Tuesday against Japan 30-29, in the last game of the group stage of the World Handball Championship, which is being held in Egypt. With three consecutive defeats, the Angolans say goodbye to the competition.

The game started at 4:30pm local time (one hour less in Angola) and the national team entered strong, having opened the scoring in the first minute of play, with a goal from António.

Angola was in the lead, but during the first period of the match Japan managed to turn the scorer and leave for the interval in advantage. The national team went to half time with a disadvantage of four points (16-12).

In the second half, Angola did not give up and managed to get a draw around the 50th minute, but it was not enough. With a very close second period, Japan managed to get the advantage, coming out victorious with only one point difference (30-29).

With this defeat, Angola is out of the competition. Only the victory gave passage to the national team, which was in last place in Group C, with zero points.

Angola was relegated to the Presidential Cup of the second phase of the tournament, which brings together the last classifieds of the preliminary round.

The national team participates for the fifth time in the final phase of the World Cup, in which the best result is the 20th place achieved in 2005, in Tunisia.

Qatar and Croatia - who also belong to the same group - also meet this Tuesday at 19:00 local time (one hour less in Angola), however, these two teams are already cleared for the next phase: Qatar leads the group with four points, followed by Croatia with three points.
