World Cup: national handball team travels this Tuesday to Egypt

The senior national men's handball team is heading to Egypt this Tuesday to participate in the 27th edition of the World Handball Championship, which runs from 14 to 31 January. The national delegation will depart from Luanda, making a stopover in Dubai before arriving in Cairo, the Egyptian capital.

The national team is part of Group C of the competition, where it will have to face Qatar, Japan and Croatia.

The competition starts on Thursday, 14 January, but Angola will only enter the field on Friday, 15 January. The first match of the national team will be against Qatar, from 16h30.

On Sunday, January 17, the national team will face Croatia (19h00) and on Tuesday, January 19, Angola will play against Japan (19h00).

José Pereira "Kidó", national coach, considered that the team will have a great challenge ahead, underlining that the team will have to give its best.

As for the choices he made for the team, the coach considered to have chosen the players who give the most guarantees in face of the demands of the competition.

20 players were chosen to represent the country: Geovanni Muachissengue, Custódio Gouveia and Ariel Silva as goalkeepers; Gabriel Teca, Jaroslav Aguiar and Agnelo Quitongo as pivots; Cláudio Lopes, Rome Hebo and Manuel Nascimento as central defenders; Cláudio Chicola and Otoniel Pascoal as right ends; Adilson Maneco and Mayomona Panzo as left laterals; Elias António, Feliciano Couveiro, Adelino Pestana and Edgar Abreu as right laterals; Mário Tati, Edvaldo Ferreira and Ruben José as left laterals.

The country, in its last presence in the World Cup in 2019, was in 23rd place among 24 participants.

Croatia - Japan, 7pm

- Sunday, January 17th:

Qatar - Japan, 4:30pm

Angola - Croatia, 7pm
