In about three years, Isabel dos Santos fell from 630th place on the list of the richest in the world to 1746th place. After all, the businesswoman fell 1116 places since 2017, says the Expansion.
This fall can be explained by the fact that the Attorney General's Office accused Isabel dos Santos of embezzlement and money laundering, leading the businesswoman to lose some of her assets.
An example of this is her participation in the Portuguese company Efacec. Also about Efacec, three Portuguese banks decided to take legal action against Winterfell Industries, owned by the businesswoman, where they are asking Isabel dos Santos for 26.4 million euros. This money will have been lent to Winterfell Industries for a deal to buy part of Efacec in 2015.
Also noteworthy is the fact that Isabel dos Santos has lost control of Unitel. The businesswoman owned 25% of Unitel's telecommunications operator and, through Vidatel, she lost control of this company, according to a decision of the British Virgin Islands Supreme Court made public by PT Ventures.
These cases as well as the 'Luanda Leaks' case, which led to the seizure of the company's accounts and assets, will have contributed to this fall.
