General elections: opposition committed to a coalition that changes the course of democracy 45 years later

The idea is not new. In August of last year, opposition parties would have converged on the hypothesis of a coalition as a way of removing the political control of the country from the MPLA, in power since 1975. Now, and with general elections on the horizon, the idea gains more and more strength between the parties.

Although no date has yet been set, João Lourenço secured the elections for 2022. In this way, the political parties that make up the opposition increasingly demonstrate the intention to unite in order to achieve a victory in the general elections.

As the main opposition party, UNITA is available to 'align' with a possible coalition. “We have been working to make this coalition of political parties a reality. In fact, in several countries this worked. It's a good idea to happen, ”said Deputy Ernesto Mulato to Novo Jornal.

“After 45 years of national independence, Angolans have not yet felt the effects of freedom. Therefore, alternation, a change in the current leaders, is certainly welcome, ”he added.

The leader also referred that, if the idea comes to fruition, he expects the parties to know how to work together for the well-being of Angolans, avoiding conflicts.

Despite questioning the independence of the National Electoral Commission (CNE), CASA-CE also says it is ready to materialize the idea of an opposition coalition. "It would be the only way to dislodge the MPLA from power," said deputy Manuel Fernandes to the same newspaper.

Despite everything, having already experience in coalitions, he leaves the warning: "It is necessary to analyze the profile of each political party that may be part of the coalition, because in some political formations their leaders are conflicted".

With regard to the PRS, Rui Malopa Miguel corroborated the position of the deputy of CASA-CE with regard to the CNE. However, the party's general secretary is also in favor of a possible coalition: “A coalition of political parties is the great option to achieve alternation in power in Angola. But the Achilles' heel is in the CNE, where everything is changed. In the case of a political platform, the situation of the CNE has to be well analyzed ”.

Rui Novo says to Novo Jornal that there are good opposition political leaders who have the conditions to lead the coalition. “The coalition of parties, with a view to the 2022 general elections, is the dream of all political party leaders. The big fear is the disagreement at the time of the decision ”, he concluded.
