European Investment Bank lends 50 million euros to the Ministry of Health

The European Investment Bank will grant a loan of 50 million euros to the Ministry of Health to combat covid-19, announced the European Union (EU) ambassador to Angola, Jeannette Seppen.

According to the European diplomat, who spoke this Monday during the ceremony of donation of biosafety material and tests of covid-19 to the Government, the referred loan will be combined with a donation of five million euros for technical assistance.

In the context of nutrition research, including the impact of the covid-19 crisis, Jeannette Seppen said that a grant of six million euros was awarded in the provinces of Huíla, Namibe and Cunene.

"With regard to humanitarian aid, the European Union's Humanitarian Aid Service made a donation of three million euros. Finally, 900,000 euros were donated to Angolan non-governmental organizations to support vulnerable families," he said.

The European Union also donated to the Angolan Government 300,000 type II surgical masks, 30,000 type IIR masks, 44,000 KN95 masks, 50,000 disposable caps, 100,000 protective shoes, 475 level I protective suits, 475 level II protective suits, 950 goggles, 15,000 visors, 4000 rapid tests to covid-19 and 8000 disposable vinyl gloves.

The offer of this specific medical material for the protection and testing of covid-19, whose ceremony took place at the headquarters of the Central Purchasing and Distribution of Medicines and Medical Devices in Angola (Cecoma), is estimated at 378,100 euros.

According to the ambassador and head of the European Union delegation in Angola, the donation is part of a package of relief measures, within the framework of the "Joint Path" program, with which the EU is supporting Angola in the fight against the pandemic. .

Angola, which is experiencing the eighth extension of the calamity situation due to the covid-19, accounts for 17,642 positive cases, 408 deaths and 11,223 recovered.
