Inflation rose to 25.10 percent in December, up from October 2017

The National Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the country stood at 25.10 percent in December, the highest value since October 2017, representing an increase of 8.20 percentage points over the same period.

According to data released this Tuesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INE), the year-on-year change stands at 25.10 percent, registering an increase of 8.20 points, and the price index recorded a monthly change of 2.06 percent, highlighting the provinces of Lunda Norte with 2.31 percent, Luanda with 2.19 percent, Cunene and Bié with 1.96 percent each, as those with the highest increases in prices.

The "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" class, with 2.41 percent, recorded the greatest increase, with increases in the "Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco" class (2.02 percent), "Health" (1.94 percent) and "Miscellaneous Goods and Services" (1.90 percent) also relevant.

The "Food and Non-Alcoholic Beverages" class contributed the most to the increase in the general price level with 1.17 percentage points during the month of December, followed by "Clothing and Footwear", "Housing, Water, Electricity and Fuels" and "Miscellaneous Goods and Services" with 0.14 percentage points each.

Among the 24 products selected from the basket's structure, which contributed the most to the rate of change in the National Consumer Price Index in December 2020, are tomatoes and tomato paste, household income, women's pants, cow's offal and condensed milk.
