Angola dominates the Olympic Games sailing competitions

On the first day of the qualifying races for the 2020 Olympic Games - which will be held in Tokyo, Japan - Angola stood out for its positive results: Isabel Afonso and Domingas Huambo, the duo from the national women's sailing team, won a total of 11 points.

The two sailors, who compete for Africa's place at the Olympic Games against Mozambique, collected six points in the first race and five points in the second race, finishing four points behind Mozambique's duo - who achieved a total of 15 points.

As for men's races, the place of representation in the Olympics is disputed only by Angolan sailors, since there are no athletes from other African countries present in the race.

During the Monday races, Francisco Artur and Divaldo Torres won a total of three points, Matias Monteiro and Paixão Afonso won a total of four points and the duo Paulo Amaral and Leonildo Feliciano finished the races that day with a total of five points.

The races are scheduled to continue this Tuesday, around 1pm.

Besides the qualifying races, which take place in Luanda, the capital also receives the African Sailing Championship.
