In front of the Supreme Court judges, Archer Mangueira said that he advised the President of the Republic to suspend the transfer of $ 500 million to a PerfectBit account "because there were too many risks in this whole process".
"There were, in fact, no guarantee elements and we had no evidence that the documents the bidders presented were true", said the former finance minister, quoted by Novo Jornal. Archer Mangueira added that the data presented in London were not sufficient elements to proceed with the operation.
The current Governor of Namibe Province also said that the transfer of 500 million dollars did not obtain presidential order nor the support of the public procurement law.
José Filomeno dos Santos, former president of the Angolan Sovereign Fund, Valter Filipe, former governor of the National Bank of Angola, António Samalia Manuel, former BNA director and businessman Jorge Gaudens, are still on the dock. The charges range from money laundering to swindling, embezzlement and influence peddling.
The session continued the trial, which began on 9 December, and is currently in the production of evidence.
