The former president of Interclube, who was elected on Saturday to replace Artur Almeida e Silva, acknowledged the work that has been done by the national team's technical team, led by the Portuguese coach.

Pedro Gonçalves recently became the first coach to qualify Angola for the African Cup of Nations (CAN), more precisely for the 2025 edition, without a single defeat – four wins, followed by two draws, in Group F.

“Of course, there is no reason to remove him. He is doing a good job, we will, perhaps, strengthen the organization, we will give all the support so that Pedro Gonçalves can do his job without any setbacks, because that is what we all want”, he assured.

In the qualifying phase for CAN2025, the Angolans finished Group F in first place, with 14 points, followed by Sudan, also qualified, with eight, while Niger finished third, with seven, and Ghana in fourth, with three.

The biggest African football tournament will be held from December 21, 2025 to January 18, 2026, in Morocco.
