The Multilateral Reflection Group is an idea of the International Institute of the Portuguese Language (IILP) and aims to "promote a more multilateral management" of Portuguese, bringing together entities with a role "in defining public policies for the use, promotion and dissemination of the language Portuguese", he announced in a statement.
The IILP is part of the Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries (CPLP) and representatives from five member states will participate in this meeting: Cape Verde, Angola, Brazil, Portugal and Timor-Leste, alongside a delegation from the Macau Special Administrative Region, China, for the first time involved at this level in IILP actions.
The agenda foresees the sharing of information about "the panorama of Portuguese teaching in each country" and analysis of "possible mechanisms for articulating and defining common criteria" in matters such as "the processes of renewing the lexicon", that is, the set of words in the language.
The creation of the group and the two-day meeting "close IILP's activity in 2024", a year "of great increase in the institution's intervention", with more than 50 projects and actions, covering eight of the CPLP countries, he concluded.
The CPLP includes as member states Angola, Brazil, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Equatorial Guinea, Mozambique, Portugal, São Tomé and Príncipe and Timor-Leste.
