Sociedade Mineira de Catoca is the big winner of the Angola Mining Awards 2024

Sociedade Mineira de Catoca was the big winner of the first edition of the Angola Mining Awards (AMA) gala, having won three awards, including the ‘Mining Operator of the Year’ award.

"The big winner of the night was Sociedade Mineira de Catoca, which won three prizes, namely: 'Mining Operator of the Year', 'Social Responsibility Project of the Year' (Young Entrepreneur) and 'Mining Woman of the Year' (Engrácia Sayto)", informs the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Oil and Gas, in a statement to which VerAngola had access.

Among those awarded at the gala, which took place last Friday, Mankenda Ambroise, the minister's consultant, also stood out, who won the 'Sector Career Personality' award.

On the occasion, Mankenda Ambroise thanked those who "contributed and continue to contribute to the development of the mining sector".

"Also winners of this gala were the company Pedras Rubras (Diamond Trading and Jewellery), the Kassinga da Huíla Project (Cutting), Granisul (Ornamental Rock Industry), Angola Polishing – ADP (Mining Explorers of Industries such as Gold, Iron and Niobium), Banco Keve (Investor Bank in the Mining Sector of the Year), Aliança Seguros, SA (Mining Sector Insurer of the Year)", reads the statement, which adds that Protteja Seguros was distinguished as the 'Company Revelation of the Year'.

In addition, the gala also paid tribute to "the industry figures who have shaped the mineral resources sector in the country in recent decades", notably Nóe Baltazar, former PCA of Endiama; Eugénio Bravo da Rosa, PCA at Sodiam; Benedito Paulo Manuel, general manager of Catoca; José Ganga Júnior, PCA of Endiama; Romúlo Macasse, PCA of Sociedade Mineira do Luele, and Esperança dos Santos (Endiama).

Speaking on the occasion, the Secretary of State for Mineral Resources, Jânio Corrêa Victor, highlighted the "crucial role" that the mining sector has been playing in Angola's economic development, as well as mentioning the "contribution of institutions that have recognized the sector's achievements".

Speaking during the opening of the first edition of the AMA awards gala – which served to recognize and reward the "best practices, innovations and personalities that stood out in the geological-mining sector in 2024, organized by Bumbar Mining" – the person responsible said that this event "not only celebrates the talent and dedication of everyone involved in the mining sector", but also signals an "important step in valuing activities" that contribute to the country's development.

"Angola Mining Awards, an event that not only celebrates the talent and dedication of everyone involved in the mining sector in Angola, but also marks an important step in valuing fundamental activities for our economic and social development", he said, mentioned in the statement.

The Secretary of State classified the ceremony as a "reflection of the mining sector's commitment to promoting practices that benefit not only companies, but also the communities where we operate".
