Chinguar and Cachiungo connected to the national electricity grid. Electricity arrives in these municipalities for the first time

The "cycle of darkness" experienced by the municipalities of Cachiungo (Huambo) and Chinguar (Bié) came to an end, with their connection to the national electricity grid. With the inauguration of the electrical networks, which took place last weekend and presided over by the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, electricity reaches these two municipalities for the first time.

In a statement, to which VerAngola had access, the Ministry of Energy and Water informs that the first electrification project in the aforementioned municipalities began operating at the weekend, and the infrastructure was inaugurated by Baptista Borges, in the presence of the governors of Bié and do Huambo, Celeste Adolfo and Pereira Alfredo, respectively.

"To interconnect the networks of the two locations, a 220/30 kV substation with an installed power of 20 MVA was built from January to December of this year and 30 kilometers of cable for the medium voltage distribution network were laid", it reads in the note.

In addition, according to the authority, "15 transformation stations from 160 to 30/0.4 kVA were installed, 29 kilometers of low voltage distribution network cable were laid, 600 new public lighting points were made and 1600 new household connections were made".

As part of the energy transition plan, this project will allow the State to save approximately 380 million kwanzas per year, "270 million of which will be spent on the acquisition of 1,550,000 liters of fossil fuel, and 110 million kwanzas on administrative expenses".

Speaking on the occasion, the head of the Energy and Water portfolio considered that "the cycle of darkness that the population of these two communities lived for years when consuming cheap and low-quality energy has ended".

According to the minister, the Executive intends to interconnect, by 2025, all municipalities in Bié to the national electricity grid.

In this way, the municipality of Chinguar "goes from four hours to 24/24 electricity supply", considered "a significant, quantitative and qualitative leap already seen in its history".

"The connection of these locations to the national electricity grid will boost economic and social development and strengthen essential services, such as health, industry and education, and stimulate local entrepreneurship, especially agriculture", reads the guardianship's note.

Before the investment, energy was supplied to these two municipalities through generators and thermal plants, "whose installed capacity was insufficient to meet demand", but now, with the "integration of public lighting and the expansion of household connections, these communities" now have the opportunity to benefit from "better living conditions and greater security".
