The installation of this cable took place last Wednesday, according to information provided by the municipal administration of Mussulo, in a statement that VerAngola had access to.
"The first submarine electricity cable in Angola was installed this Wednesday, July 2, 2025 in the municipality of Mussulo, located in the province of Luanda", the note reads.
"The aforementioned submarine cable, which will serve as a reinforcement for the electricity supply in the region, also has optical fiber, is 1800 meters long and weighs more than 70 tons", it adds.
According to Baudílio dos Santos Baptista Vaz, municipal administrator of Mussulo, the cable will increase the current power supply capacity.
Quoted in the note, the administrator said that "the current power capacity will be increased from 20 to 30 megawatts, which represents a significant step in guaranteeing basic infrastructure that will support public and private investments or even new homes".
According to Elísio Augusto, an engineer representing Mark Cables – a company involved in the Mussulo Peninsula Electrification project –, "this, which is a second alternative power source, will have the process completed in one week, thus demonstrating a gain for mobile phone operators as well".
The municipal administration's note also states that at the end of the 1800 metres there will be a "floating platform where the cable will be placed, while the Kapossoca coil of the same size will be anchored towards the platform placed at sea and where the two cables will finally be connected".
