The most affected province was Cabinda (northern Angola), where six deaths were recorded, as well as 13 injured and one missing following landslides, drownings and the collapse of walls, the spokesperson for the Civil Protection and Fire Service (SPCB), Félix Domingos, told Lusa.

In Lunda Sul, two people died due to electrical discharges, the same cause of the two deaths in Huíla, a province where five injuries were also reported.

According to Félix Domingos, there are no victims in Luanda, the capital, where it has also rained heavily in the last few hours.

Bengo, north of Luanda, is another of the provinces most affected by flooding due to the overflow of the Dande River.

The entire northern region of Angola (Cabinda, Zaire, Uíge, Luanda, Bengo and Cuanza Norte) is on alert for the next 24 hours, said the same official.

As for material damage, the survey is still ongoing, which is being hampered by the fact that many roads are impassable and the rain continues to fall, said Félix Domingos, promising a definitive assessment for after 6 pm.

Floods, destroyed houses, flooded schools and hospitals, falling trees are some of the consequences of the heavy rains that are saturating some retention basins.

Municipal and provincial civil protection commissions are monitoring the situation in order to mitigate the effects of the rain, highlighted the SPCB spokesperson.
