According to Manuel Mota, who was speaking in Luanda on the sidelines of the Manuel António da Mota awards ceremony, this year the group's turnover will grow from 3.8 to more than 5 billion euros in turnover and the activity in Angola "is growing in a very similar way", in the order of 30 percent.

"Our activity will grow this year in Angola and we want to continue responding to the challenges that the Angolan government has presented to us", he highlighted.

Manuel Mota added that Mota-Engil's investment in the country "is continuous", highlighting the significant importance of the Lobito Corridor, a railway infrastructure that will connect Zambia and the Democratic Republic of Congo to the Angolan port of Lobito, and that "clearly reflects the interest" in continuing to invest in the development of Angola.

Mota-Engil is part of the consortium responsible for the concession that will manage the Lobito Corridor for the next 30 years, together with Vecturis, from Luxembourg, and the Swiss company Trafigura.

Asked about the difficulties that the construction company faces in Angola, the person in charge stressed that Mota-Engil has been in the country for 77 years (when it started operating in Cabinda) and has a "quite stable" activity.

"Of course, economic cycles always weigh heavily and this is reflected more in economies like Angola's," he admitted, pointing to currency devaluation as a "recurrent" theme that weighs on the country's ability to continue developing more infrastructure.

Mota also stated that Mota-Engil is not worried about competition from other international companies, as the Angolan market "has room for everyone, each with their own strengths and specificities".

The "Manuel António da Mota – A life in Angola" award, created in 2019, aims to distinguish social solidarity institutions with recognized work in the areas of health and education.

Manuel Mota highlighted that the award, which aims to be a legacy of the company and its contribution to Angola, "is a way of giving back and actively participating in society".

The ceremony was attended by the First Lady, Ana Dias Lourenço, and the Portuguese Minister of Foreign Affairs, João Gomes Cravinho, who arrived in Angola on Friday to participate in the VI ministerial meeting of the European Union-Angola Joint Path, representing the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrel.

João Gomes Cravinho led the work on Sunday morning, which included among the topics of analysis the priorities of EU-Angola cooperation in the period 2021-2027, including in the areas of trade, investment and economic diversification.

On this trip to Angola, the head of Portuguese diplomacy will also visit the Lobito Corridor, which benefits from North American funding and support from the European Union, within the scope of the Global Gateway.
