Patrice Trovoada, who arrived in Luanda on Friday for a short visit, was received in audience by the Angolan head of state, with whom he addressed the bilateral relationship between the two countries.

Speaking to the press at the end of the meeting, the head of the São Tomé government highlighted the "good relations between the two states", as well as "Angola's commitment to always being on the side of the São Tomé people, the São Tomé tomense, in good and bad times".

"As you may know, São Tomé and Príncipe at that moment has been experiencing difficult economic and financial situations and we were mainly talking about these issues", he referred.

"And I leave Luanda quite satisfied to see that there is a great availability on the part of President João Lourenço to work with us, to see if in a few months São Tomé and Príncipe returns to greater macroeconomic stability that can structure the development of the country and above all the well-being of the people", he added.

With regard to relations between the two Portuguese-speaking states, the Sao Tome prime minister stressed that "there is always the possibility of doing more and better".

"I am Prime Minister for the fourth time, but it is the first time that I have the opportunity to meet President João Lourenço to talk about bilateral relations. What I am pleased to see is that President João Lourenço is very pragmatic and is very committed to the results", he noted.

Patrice Trovoada noted that cooperation between Angola and Sao Tome and Principe is good, recalling that in May this year a mixed commission was held, in which a whole series of issues were addressed.

"This morning I found in President João Lourenço a leader concerned with results and this pragmatism, I think, will help us to find more adequate solutions that better correspond to the expectations of the populations", he said.

"I think the relationship is good, it's still good, it's been good as independent States since 1975, but I'm convinced that, in terms of results, next year we can start to show signs of greater dynamism, and of concrete achievements in favor of those who elected us, which are the populations", he stressed.

With regard to the political situation in São Tomé and Príncipe, recently affected by an attempted coup d'état, Patrice Trovoada guaranteed that the "situation is calm".

"As you can see, in my proposal, what concerns us is the economic and financial situation, and the Government is also concerned with the population. As for this case, the issue is being dealt with at the level of justice, investigation, prosecutor and we calmly await the results", he stressed.

The São Tomé official stressed that "the time for justice is a little long" and a month has passed since the event, however, he is confident "in the work of the investigation team".

"And when she thinks it's time to communicate the results, we will obviously be very interested in hearing it. At the moment, the most important thing is that the country is calm and the Government is working above all to find economic, financial and social stability, which is the only one that can guarantee the well-being of the population", he reiterated.

Also on Friday, Patrice Trovoada laid a wreath on the sarcophagus where the remains of former President José Eduardo dos Santos, who died in July, are located.
