Technical staff from various ministries from both countries met in the Sao Tome capital for the eighth meeting of the mixed commission held after 11 years.

The meeting ended with the signing of several cooperation instruments, namely the verbal process of the eighth bilateral session, the agreements on the promotion and reciprocal protection of investment, and cooperation in the field of Defense, and the cooperation protocols in the field of fisheries and from the sea, and between the National Agency of Oil and Gas and Biofuels and the National Petroleum Agency of São Tomé and Príncipe.

"We consider that we have let a long time go by without activating this important mechanism of cooperation, especially in our case where our two countries and peoples enjoy a dynamic and privileged interception based on the strong ties of brotherhood, solidarity and cooperation that unite us", said the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Téte António.

The head of Angolan diplomacy acknowledged that over the last 11 years the two countries "have experienced numerous changes and challenges", where the "central concerns have been the development" of the two countries and the well-being of their people, considering "fundamental the promotion of implementation and consolidation of cooperation".

"Angola considers as priorities the political-diplomatic domains, defense and security, public order, migration, finance, trade, justice and human rights, agriculture, telecommunications and information technology, mineral resources, oil and gas, transport and tourism, culture, promotion of investment, education and training of staff" and "the issue of communities", detailed Téte António.

The same areas were indicated by the Sao Tome Minister of Foreign Affairs, Edite Ten Juá.

The head of Sao Tome diplomacy considered the holding of the eighth meeting of the mixed commission as "a fraternal reunion loaded with immense political significance", aiming at "very encouraging results" following the recent visit of Sao Tome's President, Carlos Vila Nova, to Angola.

"It is a vital exercise for us to recognize that friendly nations, such as São Tomé and Príncipe and Angola continue to strengthen the mechanisms at their disposal so that together and in a coordinated manner, they can develop actions that allow, in a concrete and assertive way, to mitigate the hard impacts that come from other geographies, thus opening new horizons of cooperation that complement the already excellent and existing relations between our countries", said Edite Ten Juá.

The Sao Tome minister considered that in the current international geopolitical context "and with its foreseeable future reformulation, it is absolutely necessary to maintain efforts to strengthen multilateralism, defending respect for the territorial integrity of countries, combating unconstitutional changes in the government and the fight against terrorism".

Also considering the context of the global economic crisis accentuated by the war in Ukraine, the Minister of Foreign Affairs praised South-South cooperation as an African alternative to overcome the continent's challenges.

"Like the spirit of African cooperation and solidarity shown during this period of great challenge, we reiterate that the importance of the South-South and intra-African partnership as a solid alternative for building a better future for the African continent must continue to prevail", defended Tete António.

In addition to several staff from various ministries, the Angolan delegation included the Minister of National Defense and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos, and the Secretary of State for International Cooperation and Angolan Communities Abroad, Domingos Custódio Vieira Lopes.

On the sidelines of the work of the eighth session of the mixed commission, minister Téte António was received in separate audiences by the Sao Tome president, Carlos Vila Nova, and the prime minister, Jorge Bom Jesus.
