The rehabilitation of the new room is part of the social responsibility that the Ngana Zenza Foundation has been carrying out in the country.
On the occasion, the first lady indicated that, together with her partners, they decided to create better conditions for care "in the part of the intensive care unit", emphasizing that the rehabilitation of the room had the support of the Ministry of Health.
"With our partners we decided to create better conditions for care in the intensive care unit (...). We opened the room, the room was rehabilitated with the support of the Ministry of Health, we set up the equipment that was donated to us through my person by a partner of a company that I've known for a long time, so I have national and international partners and today we came to open the room", said Ana Dias Lourenço, in statements to the press, quoted by TPA.
The First Lady of the Republic also left a message of hope, assuring that "better days will come" for that hospital unit: "The message I leave is that you feel hopeful, that better days will come for the Augusto Ngangula Hospital".
Madalena Diogo, director of the maternity ward, made it known that the new service has two isolation rooms for more critical cases.
Cited by Jornal de Angola, the official said that many cases of severe pre-eclampsia, hemorrhagic shock, tend to arrive at the maternity ward, which for a long time needed a more modern intensive care service. Thus, with the entry into operation of this new room, the problem is solved.
"Previously, due to lack of conditions, we provided an intensive care service in a palliative way. With a lot of effort, we were able to recover patients and discharge them. But, from now on, the service will have better quality", said Madalena Diogo, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
This new room, she said, will not only benefit women but also newborns, since the ventilators are also used for neonatology, allowing to ventilate babies who are born with problems.
She also added that, because they didn't have the conditions, they had to transfer the babies to the David Bernardino Pediatric Hospital, but that now there won't be that need because they already have the room with conditions for that.
"From now on they will be monitored at the maternity ward until they are discharged," said the official, quoted by Jornal de Angola.
Regarding the number of cases arriving at the unit, the director said that more than 200 critical patients per month go through intensive care, while the average per day of normal births is between 35 and 50 and of caesarean sections between 30 and 35.
