First lady wants more dignified and inclusive society for the elderly

The first lady of Angola defended this Friday that the country "cannot waste" the best teachings of the past, advocating that a society needs to be built "more just, dignified, inclusive and with respect to the experiences of the elderly".

:

Ana Dias Lourenço, who spoke at the launching ceremony of the platform "Dikota_E6.0", a project that proposes "to create roots and leave marks" for society, guaranteed "commitment and personal involvement" in the initiative.

"It is a platform for hope, dignity, values, citizenship and intergenerational encounter," she said.

According to the first lady, the platform "Dikota_E6.0" is a means of "building the future", but based on the past and people, because "Angola cannot waste the best teachings of the past".

"And today is the time for the older generations to join hands with the younger ones, so that together we can build a more just and inclusive society for all Angolans," she said.

The platform "Dikota_E6.0", an initiative promoted by the first lady, aims to "value the experience and knowledge of seniors and, simultaneously, explore the capacity and mastery of young people in the areas of knowledge and promote an advantageous sharing of knowledge between the two generations ".

"This is a space where we want everyone to feel part of our beloved country and where everyone feels and acquires new teachings and new experiences", she noted.

According to Ana Dias Lourenço, Angola has been experiencing profound demographic changes, characterized by an increase in average life expectancy that went from 44 years in 2014 to 60 years in 2020.

The increase in average life expectancy, she said, "is an extraordinary social gain and is a sign of the positive trend in economic and social indicators" and a challenge to face "older people differently".

"Older people are the guardians of our identity, who have so often sacrificed youth for a greater good, we must ask those, our 'kotas' (older in the Kimbundu language) who are at the origin of the platform's name to look for lead the youngest ", he stressed.

"The platform through multidisciplinary strategies was designed to build an inclusive society, a society for all ages. This intergenerationality will be transversal to the various sectors of society", she assured.

The cornerstone of the "Dikota_E6.0" platform is based on "valuing the being, knowledge and accumulated experiences of our seniors and the acquisition of new learning and knowledge by our young people".

"We ask our 'kotas' to join us, not to isolate themselves and to share their being and knowledge", urged Ana Dias Lourenço, at the ceremony that took place in Luanda.

For his part, the director of the Presidency's Office of Managers, Edson Barreto, noted that the platform emerges with the aim of cataloging and recognizing senior values, sensitizing society to cultivate intergenerational dialogue.

The exercise of "full, active and participatory citizenship", protection against all forms of discrimination against older people and the creation of spaces for cohabitation between young and old, in the public and private environment, namely within the family and companies constitute other objectives of the platform.

Edson Barreto, who presented the functional aspects of the platform, also said that the instrument comprises several fields of action, including knowledge and consultancy, the creation of a space for guidance and induction and a space for intergenerational learning.

The "Dikota_E6.0", with electronic address dikota.ao, where a "panel of seniors for the enrollment of older people" is available, will have a physical and operational area with a daily team responsible for the execution of the projects.

On the occasion, a project management team composed of 10 members, including young and old, was presented, coordinated by Manuel Correia Victor.
