New National Archives of Angola cost 97 million dollars

The new headquarters of the National Archives of Angola (ANA), a work estimated at 97 million dollars, was inaugurated by President João Lourenço.

:

The new structure has five floors, houses 69 archive rooms, three for exhibitions and nine for training, 39 offices, two laboratories, two auditoriums, among other facilities, reports Angop.

The building began to be erected in 2008, occupying an area of four hectares in Camama (Luanda) and has 30,540 square meters of construction.

With an initial budget of US $ 72 million, the work was increased by US $ 25 million, destined to the interconnection of the power, water, final adjustments and equipment.

The building "will allow the correct improvement of the accommodation of the existing documentation in the old installations of the National Archives of Angola, as well as the incorporation of the documents produced after 1975, by the sovereign bodies", writes Angop.

The files will be transferred to the new facilities, with the purpose of improving the conservation and quality of services, including the access of researchers and students to its collection.

The National Archives will also have the function "to formulate general guidelines and methodologically supervise the functioning of the National Archive System".

In April 1977, the National Center for Historical Documentation and Research was created, an institution that dealt with the issue of Archives and inherited the entire collection of the then Historical Archive of Angola.
